Upon starting the book Slice of Cherry, I did not realize that it is the second book about the citizens of Portero, Texas;however, reading the series out of order did not confuse the reader. The monsters and doors to other realms were a bit surprising without the prequel but the author has enough details for the reader to follow easily. Fancy and Kit are sisters that seem to be just alike at the beginning of the story but develop into unique, although be it twisted, individuals. The story it's not about well adjusted teenage girls but instead it is about Fancy and Kit finding themselves and their inner monsters and loving each other through those discoveries. They are the Bonesaw Killer's daughters, his blood runs through their veins, and they are content with the significance of that. I enjoyed the book but, realize if you are looking for a teeny bop story of sisters coming of age, unless you want to include torture, murder, and abuse, this may not be the book for you. If,of course, you are into that, then by all means read on.
