Penelope is Abigail's sister who's story was in the previous book. Benedict was courting Abigail. He now has eyes on someone else who has money. His end goal is to get out from under the thumb of his abusive father. Penelope feels this is not right and the girl in question is too naïve and should be marrying for love (and him too). Things happen.
I had a hard time getting into this one. I think my problem was the characters. I didn't care too much for Penelope in the previous book (I thought she was too spoiled and selfish), but she takes time to (for lack of a better word) grow on you. However, I strongly disliked Benedict in the previous book and that dislike carried over to this one. I thought his betrayal of Sebastian was horrible. Yes, I know the father was an abusive asshole, but I felt that was used as an excuse to not standing by his best friend. My ambivalence regarding the characters carried over to this one. If I had read this one by itself, I think I would have liked it better and not had "previous book baggage."
Samantha's (Benedict's sister) is next in novella form with the next novel being Olivia (who had an underlying story here).
