An interesting novel written from the point of view of Mary Anna Custis Lee (great grand daughter of Martha Washington), wife of Robert E. Lee and her servant Selina Gray. The novel is an interesting hisotircal fiction to touches very lightly the strains and strengths of the societal system both were raised and lived within as adults. While touching lightly, when reading, remember the purpose of the novel is to show how wives and families left behind make their way through strained and stressful times. BE SURE to read the notes at the end of the book as it details how life often comes around full circle.
