Face-paced and well-thought-out magic system. Promising beginning to a new series (which I must continue to collect).

Magic exists in modern-day life and anyone can use it - as long as they're willing to pay the price, whether it's loosing memories, a migraine, or blacking out for periods of time.

Allie is no stranger to paying these prices, in fact, her work as a Hound - someone who finds & convicts those that work magic through illegal means - has made her more familiar with these magical-payoffs than she'd like.

Allie is a well-constructed character. Strong-willed and likable, her instincts are usually right, but she still uses logic to make decisions instead of acting compulsively and doing something stupid. Definitely a character I'm happy to follow through the next book.
