The photos are stunning, but the author only does an average job explaining the Emperor penguins. She left out some of the most important facts (to my mind). Why are these penguins called 'Emperor?' Are the Emperor penguins endangered, and why?

They are called 'Emperor penguins' because they are the largest penguins, and the author's photos show them to be the best-dressed penguins around.

Yes, the Emperor penguin populations have dropped by about 50% in some areas. As the ice melts more rapidly, it leaves the penguins with less habitat for them to live in Antarctica. Thus, they are endangered.
