Great first book in a series! Lots of action without preaching about the good guys against the bad guys. The messages of 'the magic is inside of you' are not spelled out but the possibilities of valuing yourself are there. There will be five books in this series and two are out at this time.
A worthy follower to the Harry Potter books but written with a younger audience in mind. No swearing, cursing, and the necessary violence of that age group with added threats from beasts in this world and in another world are scary but handled well. Every chapter is rich in vision and moves the plot along. No side issues to distract.
I'm looking forward to the second book.
