This was an interesting read. In fact, I had a problem putting the book down. There were a lot of interesting characters too.

Unfortunately, in two cases the story didn't make much sense. Was the second shooting self-inflicted? If it was, I missed the author telling me that.

Finally, the last criminal arrested didn't make a lot of sense. It was almost as if Hillerman didn't know how to end the book and just pulled something out of the air. And I didn't even mention the way Bernie was rescued from certain death. What was that animal? And why did it do what it did? The ending was truly off the wall.

Which is why I gave the book only three stars.
