The Spook in the Stacks is the fourth installment in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina featuring Lucy Richardson, librarian at the Bodie island Lighthouse Library. Halloween is quickly approaching and Lucy has her hands full organizing all of the upcoming library events including the several talks scheduled to be presented by rival Louise Jane.
Former resident, now wealthy businessman, Jay Ruddle is looking to donate his vast collection of North Carolina historical documents and the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library is being considered as a recipient along with neighboring Blacklock College. Jay has come to town along with his granddaughter Julia and collection curator Greg Summers, and Lucy, Bertie, Charlene and Ronald are doing their best to encourage him the Lighthouse should be his top pick. Unfortunately during one of the Halloween events Lucy discovers the strangled body of Jay and sets out to catch a killer.
A fast paced plot with well developed characters. In this addition to the series we get to know Theodore "Teddy" Kowalski, the rare book collector with the fake British accent, a lot better as he falls head over heels and into a love triangle for the attentions of my fair Julia. Strange things are happening around the library, figures are appearing in the mist and Julia is wondering if the events are stemming from the Rebecca MacPherson, the model ship that Louise Jane has donated to the library for Halloween, whose toy sailors and cat seem to have a life of their own.
