In Loving Memory of Tracey Mast

November 15, 2010

The love of reading starts at a young age. Tracey found her passion in life through books while learning to read at Hums Elementary and then carried it with her through the rest of her life. She joined our national book club, PaperBackSwap.com, where she found many others who shared her love of reading.

In that community she made many new friends who cared about her deeply and will remember her for all the joy and happiness that she brought into their lives. In her passing, the members wanted to remember her in a special way.

On behalf of Tracey, her family and friends, we are pleased to present a gift of 1,000 new books to Hums Elementary School. We hope that many children are inspired by her and trust that they will cherish books and her love of reading the same way that she did. Our best wishes to the children and future readers of Hums Elementary School.

Thanks in advance to all who are able to remember Tracey with a donation.

The entire team here at PBS extends our condolences to her family and her many friends. Thanks to Gail P. (TinkerPirate) for the beautiful pineapple design above.  If you would like to leave comments about Tracey by clicking Add Comment on this page, we will share them with the family.

Update from the Hums Elementary...in Memory of Tracey Mast:

March 1, 2011

Dear Paperbackswap Members,

On behalf of Hums Elementary School, I would like to thank you for the generous donation of hard and soft cover books to the Hums Library donated in memory of Tracey Hunter Mast.  Tracy attended Hums in the 1980's and was an avid reader with fond and special memories of her years at Hums.  Each donated book has a dedication stamp with her picture on it.  Tracey's family was present when the Board of Schools Trustees accepted the donation.  They were quite moved and their appreciation was obvious.

I am sure that these books will be appreciated and will enhance the reading experience of many students now, and in future years.  What a beautiful way to honor the memory of Tracey.

Thank you again for the generous gift.

Sincerely,

Daniel R. Tower,

Interim Superintendent of Schools

Tracey was a dear person, not just to me but to so many, and I'm so glad that we can give back to her school in her name. It is my great honor to be a part of this amazing community. Together, we have done something wonderful for our beautiful friend, Tracey. Thank you to the PBS team for putting this together - you are awesome!

Tracey.. our very own SexyPineapple..was in my world, the personification of Paperbackswap. In the games, as a mod, as a friend. She loved reading and loved friends. She had a big heart and always looked for ways to make our community better. I am so glad to be able to participate in sharing her memory with others.

Sometimes Tracey and I laughed together, sometimes we fussed and cussed together and sometimes we cried. But however our time was spent, it was always in love and friendship. I am so happy to have a way to honor this special lady.

What a fitting way to honor such an amazing woman. Not only was Tracey a reader, she was also a giver. Many here at PBS have been the recipient of her generous spirit. Nothing thrilled her more than to fill up a big ole box and shower those she loved with gifts. Not only was she a giver of materiel things, sometimes it was with her time, her smile, a kind word or her understanding heart. Whatever was needed, if Tracey had it to give it was yours. She, more than anyone I've met, knew how to be a true friend and my life is blessed to have had her in it. I will love you always my friend, we will laugh together again soon. PBS was the avenue that brought her to us and I am proud to be part of it still as we work together to give to others in her memory.

Tracey was a sparkle on PBS that was put out too quickly. She will be in my thoughts and prayers for a long time as will her family. I hope that the books donated will make her memory last for a long time to come.

Tracey was one of my first friends that I made when coming here to PBS. I loved spoiling her with my handmade crafts and she loved spoiling me with the Yankee Candle Tarts and I have one lit now and will keep it lit everyday in her honor. I was so overwhelmed when I logged on today and saw that our Sexy Pineapple had made her flight home to be with other Angles. There will always be a place for you in my heart. I'll never forget you. And i'll never forget our signals when we wanted to talk w/o being heard. I love you girlfriend and will miss you very very much. I was so glad to be apart of your life then and so honored to be apart of your memory now. I'll never forget all the fun swaps you got me talked into taking part of. If not for you, I would of never played in my first swap. It breaks my heart because I don't know why you were taken from us. You were well and fine when we last talked and i'll never forget our chat on the phone while I was enroute to the beach for a bit of R&R. I'm heading their the 4th and will be their through Christmas and maybe later. You know the beachbum, I always come home for good the end of March. You'll be with me in my heart this Sat and always. Ed couldn't believe it when I told him the news tonight when he came home. We both send our love, thoughts and prayers to the family. I can see you kicked back now with a good book. Keep some seats empty for us. We'll see you again on the other side. Love you and miss you bunches Cyndi "Esperanza"...........i'll never forget the first time I put Esperanza under my name and you said what are you calling me now? I told you it was from Yvonne to me, it meant HOPE. Which is my middle name. :) xoxoxoxox You were always so fun to chat with. Especially on the phone and you made fun of my southern drawel. Your free now...
