Charterhouse School in Edinburg is a place where Virginia’s kids with special needs can get out of their comfort zone and start to get out into the world. Our job is to show them a more effective and productive way. Our elementary, middle and high school students benefit from a proven curriculum of academic and social skills instruction. As a result, our fully accredited school has a proud history of helping students reach graduation or their goals of returning to public schools.
We serve students ages 6 to 22. Our Student to Teacher ratio is 8:1. Our school was founded in 1979. We serve students with Autism and Other Neurological Differences, Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments.
Our Language Arts curriculum teaches students the language abilities they need to communicate effectively as individuals and as contributing members of society. Students at any grade level develop skills in various SOL language strands including: oral language, written language, reading, research and media/technology use, but the specific expectations for what students study at different grade levels vary.
Books are very important to many of our students. There is a special bookshelf in our main corridor that contains books that our students can choose. They are allowed to keep the books they choose or return it. It is completely up to them. Your gift of books to our students will help us to have a variety of books that our students can choose as their very own.
