Good read. In a world of spaceships & a planet-spanning Alliance, Academy 7 is THE school to gain acceptance to. And both Dane and Aerin are accepted. Their pasts are entwined, of course, and each's past is a mystery to themselves and the other.

The characters were fun & the premise was awesome. My only complaint was how focused they were on their pasts: the story didn't explore as much of their Present as I would have liked. However, still a fun read if you like light sci-fi/alternate settings.

Face-paced and well-thought-out magic system. Promising beginning to a new series (which I must continue to collect).

Magic exists in modern-day life and anyone can use it - as long as they're willing to pay the price, whether it's loosing memories, a migraine, or blacking out for periods of time.

Allie is no stranger to paying these prices, in fact, her work as a Hound - someone who finds & convicts those that work magic through illegal means - has made her more familiar with these magical-payoffs than she'd like.

Allie is a well-constructed character. Strong-willed and likable, her instincts are usually right, but she still uses logic to make decisions instead of acting compulsively and doing something stupid. Definitely a character I'm happy to follow through the next book.

Oh my gosh! This book was absolutely fantastic! Fantastic! It took me a chapter or two to really get into the swing of it, but then it sucked me in. And I really want (need!) the next one.

Great protagonist. Thomas responded well to the situation: not moping around for 1/2 the book (which would be an easy thing to do) nor did he seem wooden. Great blend of action & emotion. Plus, the plot/developments were revealed slowly so I kept wanting more. I did get annoyed with Thomas once or twice when he would run away from learning about something because I was curious, but it usually made perfect sense that he wouldn't want to know.

Definitely 5 stars.

Everyone should read this book! : )
