Although I read a few of his books when I was a teenager, I've never been much of a King fan, mostly because I don't like horror much. But with a title like 11/22/63 to catch my eye I couldn't resist giving it a go.
The story grabbed my attention from page one and continued throughout the story. But how could it not... I enjoy love stories, time travel and the premise of stopping the Kennedy assassination! It didn't disappoint. As a slow reader I was surprised that I read 880 pages in less than a month. Highly recommend.

The basic story, about 2 lonely people in an off kilter world, was interesting and was what kept me reading, but I think it was way too long. Happy with part of the ending but yet disappointed that I was left with a "what happens now" feeling after reading over 1000 pages.

"An abandoned baby, a treasure hunt, a secret. As Amy sets forth on her quest, readers will be swept away by this engrossing gem of a novel"
I had just finished a book I LOVED and was having trouble finding something to keep my interest. Unlike the one I had just finished, which I couldn't put down, nothing whet my whistle... till Amy Snow. It's not one that kept pulling to me read it, but it definitely kept my interest enough to keep going back. It captured my interest from the beginnig til the end. I found the characters to be interesting and a few out of the ordinary. The underlying mystery kept me involved and discovering the answers was satisfying.

Although fiction, this story is a composite of some of the true stories of children who were taken by the very real Tennessee Children's Home Society. Centers on sisters who were stolen from their home while the mother was in the hospital. Brutilized while in the home and lied to, this was a heart breaking novel of the worst of the worst in orphanages.

The beginning was rather slow but I really enjoyed the story. The story is about a woman who gets a job at a place that sounded similar to Googleplex. A great place to work, famous chefs prepare the meals, a modern apartment complex so you can live on campus, the best medical care, all perks given to the employees. But not all is as it seems. A dystopian utopia ?? at what price.

Sometimes a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do, even if it's not the most popular thing. Crazy for you started slow, I wassn't swept into the story like some of Crusie's others. But as the story progressed it became more interesting. Light, funny, with a hint of suspense, overall it was a quick and fun read.

Have to admit it took quite a while to get involved. Almost quit quite a few times. I would rate the first half of the book a 2 - so slow - the first 200 pages could have be edited down to 100 pages, much too wordy. Too many rambling descriptions that were unnecessary and bogged the story down. Was disappointed because I had read "The Forgotten Garden" and enjoyed it from the beginning so was looking forward to reading this. I persevered because I liked the basic plot and characters.

The second half of the book I would rate a 4. Once more of the actual story was being told and I got involved I enjoyed the book. But still disappointed in the end, felt like there were still loose ends.

I enjoyed the audiobook of The Silent Sister, the first experience I had with Chamberlain. But The Dream Daughter surpassed what I expected when I began reading it. I was sucked in almost immediately. "When Caroline Sears receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970 and there seems to be little that can be done." But thru Hunter, her brother in law, she finds that there may be a way to help her child, if she is strong enough to have the trust and faith in him to allow him to help them both.
They say there is nothing stronger than a mothers love... and Chamberlain proves this to be so in this multi-generational, wonderfully written multi-genre novel full of twists and turns!

I'd like to thank St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly enjoyed it!

âThis is why we can't leave the making of laws to men. They result in travesties of injustice that unfairly burden the poor. And women. Those high and mighty aristocrats, in their black robes and powdered wigsâthey have no idea.â

Powerful drama about women convicts transported on a slave ship from England to Australia in the 1840s and a young aborigine girl Mathinna, daughter of the Chief of the Lowreenne tribe, stolen from the only home she knew in Tasmania and relocated by the new governor of Van Diemen's Land.

Have to admit, I couldn't book the book down. The main characters of Evangeline, Hazel, Olive and Mathinnia stole my heart.

My one criticism is I felt they never finished Mathinnia's story and kind of left her hanging.

Kristin Hannah has done it again. From the first page I was hooked. I read the book in a week, which is amazing since the last few years I've been lucky to read 20 pages a day!

It is the story of Elsa, who was unloved as a child and in seeking love, fell in love with Rafe Martinelli, a dreamer who ends up leaving his family during the worst of times.

The more things change, the more they remain the same, is a thought that came to mind while reading this book. The rich keep getting richer on the backs of the poor.

There is a quote in the book that describes Elsa to a T...
âA warrior believes in an end she can't see and fights for it. A warrior never gives up. A warrior fights for those weaker than herself. It sounds like motherhood to me.â Elsa is a warrior!!!

This is the first book I've read by Eileen Goudge and I must say I wasn't disappointed. I was hooked from the start and had trouble putting it down. The babies deliberately switched at birth plot device is driven by her well fleshed out and endearing characters. I just finished reading it and plan to start the sequel tonight. I can't wait.

Overall the story of Li Lan, the ghost bride, was interesting. The problem I had with the story was that Li Lan was very shallow. She had no personality, was childish and although supposedly educated by her opium addicted father, made bad decisions. I also had trouble reading more than a few pages at a time, feeling overwhelmed by description. I enjoyed the secondary characters more and wanted to know more about them. I also would have like another chapter, she had made a decision and I would have like to have seen if she stuck by it and what happened.

Listened to on Hoopla.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading another.

This is also the first book I've read about racism during the time of the Chinese Exclusion Act, how racism rose it's ugly head in the Pacific NW.

The story follows american born Mei Lien in the 1880s . The story begins where Mei Lien's father subjects her to what appears to be an unconscionable act of cruelty. This grabbed my attention immediately and made me want to know more.

The story is told in alternating pov. Mei Lien in the past and Inara Erickson, who is exploring the history of her family's property on Orca Island in the present day.

Highly recommend!!

(following borrowed from Amazon review---
Reminder that in 2023, there are (still) people in America who fear anyone who is different. The difference could be in the color of skin, or language or almond shaped eyes. Some choose to live in fear with all its negative manifestations like bigotry, anger, hatred. But not everyone. Some choose to live free, in truth.)

This is exactly why books should not be banned... the more you read and learn about history the more empathetic you become!!!

I listened to this on OverDrive. My copy had water damage so won't be posted.

This is the 3rd book by Moyes that I have read. I wouldn't hesitate to read more of her work.

I had recently finished reading Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, which I also enjoyed. Both stories were based on the Pack Horse Librarians , rural women who delivered books on horseback in Kentucky.

I loved the main character, Alice, a young Englishwoman , who in order to leave her judgemental family marries a wealthy American only to discover it didn't give her the life she had hoped for. In order to escape her uninterested husband and overbearing father-in-law, she befriends Marjory, (who I also love), who's on a mission to spread the wonder of books and reading to the poor.

A very enjoyable read.

Love, love, love! I love Kristin Hannah! I love "The Great Alone"! I love Leni, the main character. I love the engrossing tale of a young girl who feels like an outcast (because of moving so often)that falls in love with Alaska and a boy, while dealing with the horrors of an abusive father with PTSD. I love the supporting characters as well and how they befriended her. Highly recommend!

Jill Shalvis is another author I discovered after joining PBS. She has become one of my favorites.

The Lucky Harbor Series is about 3 sisters who move to Lucky Harbor to claim an inheritance. Head Over Heels is the 3rd book of the series and centers on the youngest sister Chloe, a quirky, soft hearted girl who has gained the reputation of being "the wild child" Enter a very sexy hunk, a reformed "bad boy" who is now the sheriff and fun ensues. The shower scene, among others, is hot, hot, hot!!

If you're looking for a contemporary romance that is fun, yet steamy, look no further. You can't go wrong with this series and this book!
