Not an avid reader of romances, I read this author because it's a man writing under a woman's name. The difference I notice is that the male character is more flawed than those in women's romance novels. He and the heroine fight and squabble throughout. This one is set in an oil camp in western Canada, so an interesting setting.
Of the 3 I've read by V. Gordon, this is one I liked the least, probably because I recognize that in "real life" that man would be a lousy husband. But then I guess we can't expect reality from romance novels, huh?
