If you are like me, and lie awake at night thinking about events 251.6 million years in the past, then this is the book for you. The author feels a need to give a history of geology (at least as it relates to this extinction) and also throws in a section on global warming (that part not very well written). Very informative, like any good scientist, he doesn't come to a definite conclusion, but he discusses the various hypotheses as to the cause of the extensive die-off then.

Reads almost like a mystery novel. Has great new ideas on the causes of the Permian/Triassic extinction when 90% of life disappeared from the planet. The biggest extinction of all. If your into Paleontology this book is for you.
