I absolutely love this book, from the minute that I realized the dog was smarter than average...

Once again, Dean Koontz amazes me with his wit and his promising outlook on life.

Don't watch movie! The book is sooo much better.

This is one of Koontz's greatest novels. I can't even count how many times I've reread this book over again. It makes you wish so hard you had a dog like Einstein that you'd read the book again just to make the dog come alive for the duration of the story! My favorite part is when the dog starts to reveal his intelligence to Travis, the main (human) character, and Travis struggles to believe what he's seeing rather than attributing it to wishful thinking. It's a wonderful story!

I was given this book by a friend who highly recommended it. I had never read anything by Koontz before and really didn't see myself liking anything he'd write, but I was a dead wrong.

The Einstein dog character's relationship with Travis is humorous and endearing at the same time. Koontz does a great job of making the Einstein character come out of the page, as if he were real.

I highly recommend this book. I think you'll enjoy it regardless of what genre of books you typically enjoy.

I absolutely love this book and have read it many times. This is not the typical Dean Koontz book, but is a loving and unusual story about a dog with extraordinary abilities and the bad guys trying to catch him to use him for evil. It was made into a movie, bjut I think the book is much better than the movie.

This was the very first Dean Koontz book I ever read. I was hooked from the start, great story line, he writes with such lighthearted yet, facsinating style. His love for dogs makes his story even more interesting because he actually captures the mind of the animals.Any true Koontz fan will not be dissappointed with this book.

Watchers was the first Dean Koontz book I read. I have now read it at least five times and my appetite for his books is insatiable.
The structure, characters, plot and interactions keep you on the edge of your chair and you may forget to eat and sleep while reading it.

I have since read it about 20 times. Since then, I have collected, I think, every book he has written that I could find. The dog in this book is so lovable. And the 'other' engendered so much pity! Truly an excellent read.

I don't think this is one of Koontz's best; it is probably an early book. Still, it does have some very surprising characters! The good "guy" is actually a dog; the "bad" guy is a malevolent creature. As is usual with Koontz, there is the mixing up of DNA to get these results. Add to that a nice mix of human characters that interact with the "man-made" creatures. The most interesting is what that dog can do! The least interesting is Koontz's preaching...but there isn't enough of it to not read the book. I mean, everyone should read about a dog that thinks like a human. Besides, I really think I would be able to beat him at Scrabble!

In my humble opinion, this is the best novel Dean Koontz ever wrote. I enjoyed so much I went out and bought a hard cover copy after reading the paperback. If you enjoy Dean Koontz, this book will not disappoint! If you've never read Dean Koontz, this is a great one to start with.

Koontz is always an excellent read, and Watchers is no exception. I loved it. I was so entranced in the story that I had to read this one in almost one sitting! Any dog lover truly needs to read this one. (One thing that really surprised me.. Koontz must not own a dog... he fed Einstein a chocolate bar in the opening chapters!!)

Cross Lassie with E.T., add a touch of The Wolfen and a dash of The Godfather, and you get a sense of some of the ingredients in this supernatural thriller, which should move Koontz ( Strangers a notch closer to Stephen King's high-rent district. When Travis Cornell, Koontz's appealing hero, encounters a stray dog while hiking, he quickly realizes that the animal is most unusual and that something terrifying is stalking them both. The encounter with the dog is the beginning of a tightly woven plot involving genetic manipulation that has created two extraordinary animals; one is the dog, named Einstein, the other is a murderous hybrid called "The Outsider." Hunted down by both the government and a professional killer who has learned the secret of the animals, Travis, Einstein and Nora Devon, a lonely woman befriended by man and canine, attempt to escape their pursuers all the while knowing that a confrontation with The Outsider is inevitable. Though the climax packs a little less wallop than it deserves, this is the sort of thoroughly frightening and entertaining tale that has its readers listening for noises in the night.

Not as predictable as I was afraid it might be, it did compell me on to read more and more. Great author!

When Travis Cornell and Nora Devon meet "Einstein", they are touched by the dog's intelligence. Einstein is one of two altered life forms escaped from a top-secret lab. The other--The Outsider--is a deadly hybrid. To protect themselves, Travis and Nora must learn to be deadly as well.

Not a fan of horror ordinarily, this is one of the best books I have ever read, regardless of genre. The dog is one of the most wonderful characters in literature, and, yes, the dog is a leading character. Hated for the book to end.

One of Koontz's best. This book kept my interest and I read it very quickly. Dog lovers will especially love the beautiful golden retriever with special abilities who is featured in the novel. It is a story of love, of companionship, of fear and of the unthinkable coming from an uncercover governmental experiment in a secret lab...

This story has it all: A guy, a girl, and a dog. How could you go wrong? The basic premise of the story is dark and shadowy genetic experiments in a dark and shadowy, clandestine, super secret government laboratory. But the story gets much better from there. The dog represents "good" and there is also "evil" but I will let you discover that for yourself. The story is also about boy and girl things but with a Dean Koontz twist. The mutt is a seemingly normal golden retriever but with a Dean Koontz twist. If you like boy/girl/dog stories this one is a winner.

Honestly, I can't tell one Dean Koontz book from another. They're all basically the exact same story: a P.I., a smart dog, an evil bioethicist, whatever, etc, etc. Oh yeah, this one's about a supersmart dog...and an evil baboon-like creature. Eat it up, suckah.
