Haven't read a Nora Roberts book in awhile. This story i trigger me right from the beginning. Coming from an abused family I hate to admit I found some interest in the book. Good til the end.

This is not just another Roberts romantic suspense novel like she usually writes. It is the story of horrible family abuse and the healing that can come after. The book is divided into three sections. The first is the story of two children caught in an abusive family that everyone outside thought was the picture of the perfect family. Father an MD and the mother who is on all the right committees. But things are very black on the inside. The story of how they get out is suspenseful and riveting. The next sections tell the story of the children when they grow up and how they have turned their lives around. Altogether a very good book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

My first issue is that I'd like to know if Coke was a sponsored ad for this novel? I have never read about so much Coke consumption in my life (every other page the main character was grabbing a Coke from the fridge).
Second - what was with all the casual references to âoffing myselfâ as a joke? âMight throw myself in a lakeâ Highly triggering to those affected by these circumstances (like myself) and unnecessary.
Third - a murdered victim found âfloatingâ in the lake the same day it happened? Not possible. Any crime writer would know (or research) that a body would sink and does not float for a few days. I highly dislike impossible crime scene scenarios.
Fourth - Landscaping on every other page. Darby's business takes off immediately - magic!
So much drama in one book (domestic abuse every other chapter - even with the secondary characters, extreme child abuse, murder, revenge on everyone and their mother, love stories left and right)- pick one theme and stick with it.

Super disappointed in Nora Roberts latest.

Ok book but not my favorite. She is a better writer than this. Very repetitive and the discussions are so stilted. Basic story of a abused child's life. OK story line but only so-so overall.
