I tried to like it. I really did. I thought it would be a sweeping epic like "Poldark" or "Far from the Madding Crowd." Instead, it was bogged down with too much description and not enough plot. That being said, if you're into character development and inner motivations, this is definitely the book for you.
A historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland, in which a woman from the Highlands strays into the staid lowland parish of Balnesmoor and stumbles across a dead girl and her baby, setting in motion a struggle to scrape a living for herself and her adopted daughter.
