I'm always amazed by Lovesey's novels. There are times I find other mysteries too long, in that they would be better if they were 50 or 75 pages shorter. But not with "Peter Diamond." That cop's stories are page turning.
Lovesey throws numerous suspects at you. Often, the one you pegged early on, and then later dismissed, turns out to be the killer. This one wasn't like that. I examined numerous suspects, willowed them down, and one of them did turn out to be the killer. But that was only confirmed in the last 15 pages or so.
