Loved Watership Down but it's been awhile since I read it. Yes, it was cool to return to the adventures of the rabbit characters I met in the first book. This one includes several tales about them as well as introducing new characters who are just as memorable as those of the first novel.
My favorite character is Fiver who once again proves why I like him so much. Somehow he knows just what to do, when to do it and most likely what will happen. And, I loved meeting the new female head rabbit, Hyzenthlay, who heads the warren with Hazel. She's a gentle leader who understands what it means to be in charge.
Many early tales are told by Dandelion who recites past experiences by these delightful characters. Every family has its legendary characters and the tales about El-ahrairah illustrate that role. He was the model for following generations.
I cannot say I liked this book as much as the first but it was great fun to read more about the adventures of the rabbits from Watership Down. If a reader enjoyed that book he or she would find this one fun and, of course, nostalgic. Good read.
