Amazing! A 19 yr old girl could write such a fantastic book. She describes her story of her ability to overcome terrible situations & her power, as a child to not only survive but to follow her heart. As a 7 yr old child, in a hospital, alone in Germany, she observes the culture & compares it to her own. She, uses an uncanny adult ability to analyze, & predict her future in various cultures, from the experience. As a one legged child, her father & whole family, except her mother, having been killed, with no money, & against the wishes of her mother, she uses her tremendous drive & singleness of purpose, to acheive her almost unatainable goal to come to America. She uses her unbeleivable, horrendous experiences as lessons, making lemonade out of the lemons life has handed her & puts forth amazing insight that most people 10 times her age never acheive. I have read many books about women coming from these cultures, which corraberate her experience, but she tells details in a way that I have never read before, feelings that moved me so deeply, told through the eyes of a child & over time coming of age. This young lady is a fantastic writer & will go far in whatever she decides to do with her life. I am hoping she writes another book bcs I'll be first in line to read it. I recomend this book to everyone & a must read to every teenage boy & girl to help them understand other cultures, the struggle of women & the disabled in other cultures & then the struggle of the immigrant entering high school in America. What she has acheived at 19, is ubeleiveable. My hair is gray but this young lady has inspired me to refocus & acheive my own goals. I would give this 1000 stars if I could. A must read for everyone.

Inspiring story! Although the topic may appear depressing, it was actually quite heart warming.

well read and fairly well written. This is a sad accounting of a life that began in complete misery...I guess we'll have to wait until Farah writes the sequel to see how she turns out...
