This book was pretty cheesy, but entertaining enough that I read it in a few sittings. The author seemed to be trying to tell the story from the perspective of the time period it was set in (the 1940s) without judgement. However, I cringed when an Ob/Gyn said that smoking during pregnancy in moderation isn't anything to worry about (because how cranky a woman would be to quit AND be pregnant!), the main character bristled when learning that a white man had run off with a "colored" woman, and during a depiction of what would today would likely be considered rape. Maybe this is why "historical fiction" (though the 40s weren't THAT long ago) isn't my cuppa.

This was the first book I read by this author, and apparently she has quite a few. I won't be racing out to buy her back catalog, but if I were at some beach resort and saw one of her other titles in a lending library I would probably read it.
