This was a fascinating book based on an interesting premise - who were the men depicted in a famous photograph taken during the height of the Civil Rights movement and what became of them? Hendrickson does some first rate reporting and puts it all together in a well written book. Highly recommended.

I bought this book because I was raised in Mississippi but I was too young to remember much about this era. After a lot of people made comments about my "neck of the woods" I decided I should know what they were "commenting" about for sure. This book will definitely give you that kind of information. It's hard to believe things like that actually happened near my home.
An old civil rights photo in Life magazine from 1962 inspires the author to go back and find out what happened to the southern sherrifs in the image and also how their kids regard race and Mississippi. A great book.
