It describes how they catch their prey and eat it, in the case of snakes using their sense of smell to hunt. It examines the reproduction of snakes and lizards, and the reader is introduced to the idea that both these reptiles lay eggs. Enemies of these creatures, and the role of camouflage and warning coloration, are looked at before the book ends by discussing conservation, and how some snakes and lizards may be kept as pets.
