This was an unexpected delight (as fiction, not as theology). May hears the recitations of sins of those who are dying and eats the foods that represent those sins so that the dying will be absolved. The mystery comes in when the foods prepared do not match the recitations. May is not allowed to speak or interact with anyone outside of her duties as sin eater, and yet she manages to be part of a community, find comfort, and solve a mystery. I will be thinking about her character for a long time.

I was looking forward to reading this book. Little did I know that I would enjoy it as much as I did. It was a historical fiction account on Sin Eaters from back in the Middle Ages. It also had a mystery twist to it as well. It all melded quite well together with wonderful characters and an awesome setting. I was still wanting more when it ended.
