With the Masters Gang on her trail, Samantha Masters had to disappear quickly. Assuming the identity of a grateful Alison Ross, whose life she saved, Sam travels to Scotland to take over Alison's abandoned property Erradale. She's been given the ownership papers and was told to live there as long as she wants. Gavin St. James, Earl of Thorne, sees Erradale as a chance for his freedom. He is trying to separate himself from his violent past and wants nothing to do with his MacKenzie family. Gavin assumes he can charm the land right out from under Alison. But when he meets her, he learns that she isn't interested in selling, especially to someone from the MacKenzie family.
I have to say this was my favorite book in the Victorian Rebel series so far. Samantha is a strong heroine who has had a tough life. She's running from her past and wants a quiet place she can settle down and not be found by the men who are searching for her. Gavin is the handsome lothario who hides his MacKenzie temper behind charm and seduction. He is fascinated by Sam and wants to seduce her into selling the property.
I was thoroughly entertained by this story. The characters are well rounded. We got to see Liam and Mena again, along with several new characters who may get their own books in the future. My rating: 5 Stars.
