Dr. Emma Sweeney is driving across the campus of Galway University on her way home from work when she comes across a body. Emma immediately notifies her boyfriend, DS Cormac Reilly, who takes on the case. It looks like a hit and run. But the fact that the body was run over a few times tells Cormac that this wasn't an accident...it was murder. Identification in the girl's pocket shows she is Carline Darcy, a university student who is the granddaughter of John Darcy, CEO of Darcy Therapeutical which has a lab on campus. As Cormac, along with DS Carrie O'Halloran, investigate the case, things become problematic for him. People believe Cormac should withdraw from the case since his girlfriend found the body and works as a researcher at Darcy Therapeutical. His boss is worried about the political ramifications of going up against John Darcy. And a co-worker is undermining Cormac's investigation.
The second book in the Cormac Reilly series is a solid police procedural. I liked it just as much as the first book in the series. The characters are well developed and believable. The mystery kept me glued to the audiobook. Aiofe McMahon does a terrific job as the narrator. Her individual voices for the characters were perfect. My rating: 5 Stars.
