A very good historical romance with lots of physical love (wink, wink). The characters were very likeable and for once I was pleased to read about a hero who immediately and readily acknowledged his great attraction and love for the heroine without all that "Do I love her? I certainly lust after her" angst that most romantic heroes go through. The characters still had there difficult hurdles, duty and scandal, that is par for the course in a Regency novel but I really enjoyed this book and thought it well written.

Disowned! But deeply in love! Emily Spencer was both when she eloped to the Continent with her handsome young soldier. Now widowhood had brought her back to England - and into the arms of Evan Mansfield, the dashing Earl of Cheverley, who willingly gave her his heart...but could never give her his name.
Elemental and Eternal... Such was the passion Emily Spencer inspired in Evan Mansfield. Surely this woman was his destiny, his forever love, despite her lack of aristocratic ties. But honor and a deathbed promise demanded he bind himself in marriage to another - and abandon the only joy he'd ever known!

Threatened by extortionists, disowned widow Emily Spenser has little recourse--until the Earl of Cheverley, captivated by this unusual shopkeeper, comes to her aide. Emily cannot repay the Earl's expenditures--not in coin. But having learned through bitter experience not to trust the largesse of powerful men and desperate to stay hidden from the father-in-law who would take away her son, she seeks to cancel her obligation to the highly visible earl immediately, little realizing a "fleeting" affair will lead to something much more...

One of Julia Justiss's best, and a bit of a tear jerker. What I liked a lot was that the plot conflicts were not based on misunderstandings.
