This book has an unusual setting - a military training camp for canines in WWII. Tom is in the service assigned to work with the dogs but he has a overwhelming fear of dogs. What he really wants as he is a cowboy at heart is to work with horses. Lainie is a girl from a pampered background who trained to be a nurse and wants to go the front lines to serve but illness has prevented this from happening. Lainie is determined to make it on her own without falling back on the assistance of her family. Tom and Lainie each believe that they are being lead to do what they should by the Lord although each fears that that path is something other than what they personally want. This story explores their separate yet united journey to peace and eventually love.
