I found this book in the humor section of the book store, but I did not find it humorous at all.
The book is a series of letters, or notes, sent from a mother to her son. Some of the letters are way out there, and redundant, maybe even a little bit disturbed. Certainly not abusive. This book is the son's revenge. The book is distasteful in that the mother obviously needs some help, but the author chooses to publish her letters and distance himself as opposed to assisting her in any way. I can't recall one instance in the book where he helped her out. He blames the majority of the bad things that happen in his life to his mother's overbearing letters. At one point, when the mother sends several letters reguarding the wherabouts of her will and various insurance policies, he says to the effect of "will you die already". I must admit that I did not read the last chapter. I had just had enough. The author comes off as a whiny, petulant child.

The author's mother is a little wacky and the notes she sends are pretty funny. She wants to be a part of her son's life and he deals with it the only way he can - with humor! If you have a smothering mother you will appreciate the story.

I expected a funny, quirky book about an over-stepping & over-involved mother, instead this was a spite-filled, angry story by a bratty adult son. His mother is definitely kooky & inappropriate. She's obsessed with the safety & well-being of her son (oh, the HORROR). She's broke, yet she sends him $50, $100 for pocket money. She repeatedly names him the beneficiary of her insurance policies. After reading this & his mocking responses, I really hope she found a more worthy recipient - like a charity or a DOG.

His mom has issues, but the author came across as the truly unstable, disturbed party here. He's a spoiled, jerky brat. I'm glad I found this book cheap, second-hand so as not to contribute a dime to his profits / royalties from it. Yuck.
