This is a collection of short stories written by Phil Klay about Marines serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and their lives before and after. The stories were almost all written in the first person and I at first thought that I was reading real-life recollections by real, live Marines. The stories are written so well that the line between fiction and nonfiction is completely blurred. I was really surprised to read that they were all fiction and written by one man. Several of the stories had Camp Lejeune as a setting and it was interesting to me to read stories set on a base that I once called home. The military details are dead-on accurate and impossible to tell if the author has actually served in the Marines. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone.
