A friend lent me his copy back in 1990. I enjoyed it so much that I asked him if I could read it again 6 months later. Enjoyed it even more the second time around. Four years later he found a copy (hardback) and sent it to me cross country. I have read it three times since then. Its funny, sad, heroic, stupid, and a bunch of other things. A very good read. He became a British "Ace" with two Aluminum legs, - don't want to say more, else I'll give away the story. If you find this, get it read it, it's worth every last word. I treasure my copy and am careful to whom I lend it to.

From back cover - "Genuinely heroic, dramatic and engrossing...if it is discovered by only 10 per cent of the readers who would be enthralled by it, it will be one of the most popular books of the year." Orville Prescott, New York Times
