I was really excited to read this novel. But that's as far as it got. I really should have read some reviews first because I have never been more disappointed with a Predator novel. This shouldn't even be considered part of the Predator series since the aliens we know as the Preds have very little similarities to the franchise. I suggest only reading it if you are a die-hard fan of John Shirley, if you're not, skip it and don't even consider it a loss.
The lack of research the author used to write this book scares me! It's just plain lazy and disrespectful of the original creators and fans who have come to love the series and are expecting a good tie-in to the rest of the genre. I mean seriously, why would we want to waste money on something that sucks so bad?!?! Shirley could have easily Googled the freakin' information so that he could have gotten some basics right and us fans would have less to complain about. If Shirley was interested in writing a series about corny, violent, gender-bending, carnivorous predatory aliens he should have just done an original piece of work and stayed away from this series--unless you like seeing that a Pred will refer to something as a "joy-making notion" (oh, I kid you not, that is in there, along with a lot of other really sad, sad dialogue).
I won't overly rehash what other reviewers have pointed out because the intelligent ones (who are giving this piece of junk a 1 star rating-I wish I could give it zero!!!) are right. It's crap. Crap, crap and more crap!
