For that's what Avelyn fears she will resemble at their wedding feast: too round, too red, in the scarlet gown she barely fits into...and perhaps too tart for his taste? — Her groom no doubt wants a sweet, biddable bride, tiny and trim, as Avelyn is desperately trying to appear. — After the lo...  more »

I'm not a romance reader, but couldn't put this down. Avelyn is a plus size woman who is bethrod to Paen. She is worried because she is plus size he won't like her. Wrong!! Very funny, book.

I loved this book! It was funny and I found myself laughing and embarrased for the poor girl through most of the book. Great light read when you need a chuckle or to just take a break.

Here is the guide on how to enjoy a Lynsay Sands's historical romance. First, know it's not going to change your life. Second, don't expect a great plot because they are all the same: attempted murder attempts on a newly wed couple to gain title and power. Third, laugh, laugh, laugh. This one is no different. Yes, the plot is predictable and the blossoming relationship between Avelyn and Paen is sweet, but I read it for the funny scenes.

I also loved that Avelyn is more of a full-figure woman. Paen is also so clueless it was endearing. I especially loved the part where he tries to increases Avelyn's self esteem by petting her rump and giving her an apple because that's what he does to make his horse feel better. Like I said clueless and sweet.

It's frivilous and thoroughly fun.

Really great plot, if rather inaccurate historically. I mean, really... who in 11th century anywhere would expect a bath every day? Great plot device, but drove me slightly crazy. The hero is such a dear, too. Would like to see more of her brother and family in a future book.

I liked this book, but not as much as others that Lynsay Sands has written. Though I laughed and enjoyed it, the characters didn't mesh right away for me. The main characters didn't pull me in and in some spots I wanted to kick him. There needed to be some more talking to clear up stupid misunderstandings more and in my book the 3 cousins issue was not resolved. Overall though I enjoyed reading it, it isn't my favorite book of Ms. Sands..
