This was an easy read, told with great humor, with some surprisingly deeply drawn characters and wise observations.
A young widowed mother, circa 1958, moves with her young daughter to Gainesville FL to escape the sad memories of their former home and make a new start. One of young Dinah's new friends, as she struggles to fit in, is rich, popular Crystal Landy. The meat of this book is the relationship between these two families over the growing up years of these girls, with the backdrop of the Civil Rights Era and the beginnings of VietNam. Dinah's mom finds true love in an unconventional relationship; despite the social differences between them, the two moms become friends, and the girls work their way through their own first teen and adult relationships.

I have found a new favorite author! This is a delightful and unexpected story about forgiveness and second chances.
What a wonderful book, just received today and already finished. Will add Betsy Carter to my list of favorite authors.
Really enjoyable.
Enjoyed this read very much!
This book is a little dark. But definitely a must read.
Just a simple feel good story. Takes place in Gainesville Fla which is why I was interested in reading it, but while it took place in the 1950's and later, it was pure fiction - no real businesses people or places were included. Disappointing in this respect but not a bad story.
