This book has challenged me to live life differently after reading it. . .Ann Voskamp shares snippets of her life in a series of essays. The first couple echo her hurting heart and the rest offer pieces of how she changed spiritually through another's dare to give thanks for 1000 gifts. Ultimately her list of God-given gifts turns into better relationships, especially with the Giver of those gifts, and continuing a lifetime of giving thanks.

Even in facing her life's challenges, her prose is beautiful. This is one I have to keep; this is one to re-read as I make my own list of 1,000 gifts. I highly recommend it. Also, it is a Christian book and faith in Christ is a key component of this book.

I absolutely adored this book! When I first got it, I gobbled it up in 2 days and then began to read it again, slowly and more thoughtfully. Ive been in the habit of keeping a grateful journal for a few years now, so I was excited that this was the topic of the book. Some days I can only think of 5 or 10 things, but having read this book, I bet I can think of much more now!

This is a Christian themed book, so may not appeal to everyone, but if you can walk outside and see the beauty of a gorgeous sunset, or the miracle of a butterfly, I think youll appreciate this book!

The author is a writer, living on a farm with her husband and 6 children. Shes super busy, but finds the time and the scriptural basis for thanking God for everything. Shes very descriptive and quotes scripture as she herself learns what it means to give thanks and leads us on our own (hopefully!) journey. I enjoyed the ride and learned a lot! Im not quite ready to let this book go but I hope to soon!

A bit of a hard read at some points in the style that it is written, but filled with such challenging goodness. Worth the read! It has challenged me to keep my eyes & ears open to the "gifts" in my own life.

Not a book I would recommend. I couldn't get past page 27. I try to give every book I read the benefit of the doubt and read to page 100. This one I just couldn't stick with it. It gave me a headache trying to understand her style of writing. Voskamp's style of writing is choppy and uses way too many adjectives. I am sorry I wasted $5.00 on this book.

What an inspiration, cutting to the soul and very real. She is able to pierce the dark world of our own self seeking and reveal the Glorious truth of God's care for our souls.

This amazing book, written by gifted author, Ann Voskamp, has âclassicâ engraved on every page. Few modern authors have such a lyrical writing style. Each sentence is birthed in emotion and deep meaning. I hope this one is on your âmust readâ list.

An excellent book that will move you to a life of gratefulness! The author has a poetic style, give it a few chapters and you'll come to understand her style and after a couple more you'll even start to prefer it. She has so much emotion yet she is real and true.I found her writing to be comforting and encouraging.

ust like you, Ann Voskamp hungers to live her one life well. Forget the bucket lists that have us escaping our everyday lives for exotic experiences. "How," Ann wondered, "do we find joy in the midst of deadlines, debt, drama, and daily duties? What does the Christ-life really look like when your days are gritty, long - and sometimes even dark? How is God even here?"

In One Thousand Gifts, Ann invites you to discover a way of seeing that opens your eyes to ordinary amazing grace, a way of living that is fully alive, and a way of becoming present to God that brings you deep and lasting joy. It's only in the expression of gratitude for the life we already have, we discover the life we've always wanted . . . a life we can take, give thanks for, and break for others. We come to feel and know the impossible right down in our bones: we are wildly loved - by God.

Let Ann's beautiful, heart-aching stories of the everyday give you a way of seeing that opens your eyes to ordinary amazing grace, a way of being present to God that makes you deeply happy, and a way of living that is finally fully alive. Come live the best dare of all!

A little bit too evangelical for me. Basic message - to live with grace and see the small things start by thanking God â¦.. and then lots more religion in the message.

Ann Voskamp's writing is uniquely poetic. A non-fiction book, full of true, practical principles, yet it reads like a journal. Truly captivating. This book has greatly affected me! I find joy in applying the things I have learned in these pages. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to deepen her faith and strengthen her relationship with God.

Even though I enjoyed the challenge and the basis for this book, I really didn't enjoy the author's writing style. She uses way too many words - I prefer plain speaking. However, I did come away with a new way of viewing the world and the gifts God has given us.

Poetic and emotional, this is a journey into one woman's revelation that thanksgiving is a daily act that can bring us closer to God. This book was life-changing to me, and I am now keeping my own journal of 1,000+ gifts!
