Old Grudges New Enemies Author:Charles Fox If the past truly is prologue, then it is doubly so with the Irish. A second generation Irish/American by the name of Francis “Boyo” Shea finds this out, much to his surprise, soon after the death of his father, Brendan Michael “Sham” Shea. Upon his death Sham leaves Boyo a cryptic letter in which he reveals that his family was involve... more »d in the 1916 Rebellion and he, his mother and cousins were spirited out of Ireland to the U.S. Sham’s cousins tried to entangle him, from time to time, in various plots to save Ireland. Sham had seen enough bombs and bullets during WWII and shied away from terrorism. His cousins thought him a coward and passed the feeling down to their sons. By a quirk of fate, Sham comes into possession of a large sum of money belonging to the IRA. He keeps it hidden until his death, when he tells all to his son via a letter in a safety deposit box. The knowledge revealed in the letter starts Boyo down a twisted path that leads him from a San Diego law practice to Hollywood where he takes over his father’s business as a private investigator. He meets Peggy Malloy, a major player in the Hollywood scene. Stunningly beautiful, she is also manipulative. Mary Margaret Moore, Boyo’s cousin, better known as M’s, is wealthy, breathtakingly gorgeous, and the leader of a paramilitary group with plans to launch an invasion of Ireland with the intent to establish a socialist government. These two are aided and abetted by M’s uncle, William Moore, who leads a double life as a Judge on the Queens Bench in Toronto, Canada and a secret financier of M’s group. As Boyo becomes more involved in his family’s intrigue, he discovers that he is perhaps the only one who can stop an effort to disrupt the last chance for peace in Ireland in the 20th century.« less
