I loved this book. The language was very beautiful. I will probably read it again in the future. Nenna's "give" speech is absolutely heart-breaking.

I found this book dull and a waste of time. Didn't like any of the characters, except the children. No plot to speak of, although I appreciated the ending. I don't know how it ever won an award.

This was an unusual little story that I liked well enough to finish but wasn't overly fond of. Plot-wise it's not unlike "Cannery Row" (which I enjoyed more), in that it tells excerpts from the lives of various neighborhood characters. The dialogue seemed awkward at times and didn't always make sense, and I found it somewhat difficult to keep track of the characters, of which there were quite a few for such a short book.

I found this book very boring even after trying several
times to reread portions to get it to make sense. Don't know how it was awarded The Booker Prize !
