I wanted to read a Truman book for several reasons, and I was pleasantly surprised by this mystery, her twelfth. Husband and wife team in this mystery, I kept picturing the Doles in my mind. Good tourist information in her Washington D.C. descriptions.

Mac Smith, law school professor and ex-criminal attorney, and Annabel Reed, the attractive sleuthing duo of Margaret Truman's Capital Crimes series, are married in the National Cathedral by the handsome young Reverend Paul Singletary, who is found a short time afterward in the Cathedral with his head crushed in by an unknown assailant. Is someone in the church guilty of such a violent crime, the Bishop is worried enough that he calls Mac in to help him shield the church from the police investigation. Mac is more intent on going to England for his honeymoon, but the crime follows him and Annabel across the sea where another young priest is killed in the same way as Reverand Singletary. A really good read for those who like a good story line and great characters.

Quick, easy read. The ending was a little 'bleh' but was a fun read.

When Episcopal priest Paul Singletary is murdered in Washington's National Cathedral, there are so many logical suspects that it's difficult to choose among them. This latest volume in Truman's series of tales of murder and mayhem in the nation's capital again features law professor Mackensie Smith and his intelligent new wife, Annabel Reed. Their companionable relationship is a definite plus, as are the details of life in Washington.

From back of book:

Murder didn't stop Mac Smith and Annabel Reed from falling in love, or from getting married at the glorious church on the hill in Washington, D. C. the National Cathedral. But the brutal murder of a friend drags them from their newlywed bliss into an unholy web of intrigue and danger.

The body is found in the cathedral. There are scant clues and no suspects. And to further complicate matters, a a prallel crime is committed at a church in England's Cotswolds, where the honeymooners have recently been visitors. Across the sea go the Smiths again, and straight into the center of an ungodly plot of secret agents, a playboy priest, a frustrated lover, a choleric cleric and a murder so perfect it's a sin.
