What?????

Who wrote this tripe????

By chapter 30(and I had to struggle to stay with it that long) I didn't have a clue what was going on and was really very very tired of all the references to past Presidents, movies and songs!!

Patterson should've proofread this one before he put his name on it!

Boy, all the reviews on this book are varied, from one star to five! I thought it was an exciting non stop thriller and enjoyed the humor throughout. However, Ben's OCD was annoying as he kept spouting references to movie stars, movies and other trivia ad nauseam .

The good news: There are a couple of twists that make the book worth reading. The bad news: You have to live inside the mind of an ADHD Washington reporter to get through the book. The book has entire paragraphs of ramblings that have absolutely nothing to do with the plot or characters. About 1/3 of the book is the main character sharing his thoughts about his favorite moves, presidential trivia, or what would Matt Damon do as Jason Bourne if he where in this situation, etc... Not one of Patterson's best

Never thought I would see the day I would actually HATE a book written by James Patterson! This was so disappointing & I had to force my way thru to the end as I hate not knowing the ending of a book!!! Really NOT the James Patterson writing I have come to love.

I couldn't even make it through six chapters. The references to presidents and useless trivia bored me real quick.

Slow beginning == but OH, it becomes a genuine Patterson thriller. Don't give up on it when you start.

James Patterson's scariest, sexiest stand-alone thriller since The Quickie. â Ben isn't like most people. Unable to control his racing thoughts, he's a man consumed by his obsessions: movies, motorcycles, presidential trivia-and Diana Hotchkiss, a beautiful woman Ben knows he can never have. â When Diana is found dead outside her apartment, Ben's infatuation drives him on a hunt to find out what happened to the love of his life.

Ben soon discovers that the woman he pined for was hiding a shocking double life. And now someone is out to stop Ben from uncovering the truth about Diana's illicit affairs.

In his most heart-pumping thriller yet, James Patterson plunges us into the depths of a mind tortured by paranoia and obsession, on an action-packed chase through a world of danger and deceit. «

James Patterson is my favorite author. He writes some of the best books in the world, ever written. The thing with this book is that it is the best book he has ever written. Nearly every single book I've read by him, I have had a difficult time setting down. With this one, it wasn't like that. It was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE TO SET DOWN. I literally starting read this the second I got it in the mail and tried to set it down to get the dishes and house cleaning done and literally sat down and read the entire book within a half a day. Not kidding. That's how good it was. So, if you want a book with twists and turns and suspense and mystery pick up this one. You'll never believe what the truth turns out to be. Not what or who you were expecting at all...none of them! Love it! Hope for another one just as good sometime soon! Read this book...Right away!

Worst book I ever tried to listen to. Couldn't even get through the first disc. I think I MAY have gotten to chapter 11. Garbage!

You'll either love it or hate it. Personally I found it an alright book with some pluses and some minuses. The pluses: Not one error as far as firearm goes as is getting to be the norm with Patterson's books(could be because there was not a direct scene in the book that relied on a firearm.) It was fast paced. The minuses: the fast pace was also a drawback to the book as far as providing logical continuity. Also, as some others have pointed out the aggravating sidebars int presidential, movies and song trivia grew tiring after the fist few chapters. The flashbacks to when the main character was a kid involved in his mother's death was also overdone. The best part of the book was the final plot twist, did't see that coming.

Loved the story, but not so much the plotting. A fun ride none the less. Not what I expected, but still entertaining.

I have read reviews about this book not being very good, but I totally enjoyed it. It was a good suspenseful mystery with humor throw in. Kept me guessing til nearly the end..

I was somewhat disappointed in this one especially after reading and really enjoying Invisible that was also co-written by David Ellis. In Mistress, Patterson and Ellis try to write a political thriller but fall well short of what a good political thriller should be (try Vince Flynn or Brad Thor). The story was told in an annoying first person narrative style that included a lot of pointless movie and presidential trivia. It is told by an on-line journalist, Ben, whose girl friend, Diana, has apparently committed suicide by jumping from her apartment building in Washington, DC. But did she commit suicide or was she murdered or was she really the one who was killed? It turns out that Diana was leading a double life and was involved with the Russians and Chinese. Ben is trying to find out what really happened and is also being pursued by the police, the CIA, and the Russians. It almost seemed like Patterson was writing a screenplay instead of a novel. Patterson's novels seem to be hit and miss and to me this one was a definite miss!
