Two cassettes; abridged. Thriller whereby a Houston detective must race against time to stop a serial killer who likes to kill upper class women in a sadistic way. Don't listen to this if you're driving on a dark, rainy night.

MERCY is an older book written by David Lindsey (published 1990) that I happened to see on a trip to a used book store. I've read other Lindsey books, but somehow I had overlooked this one. On the front of the book it proclaims A Shattering Novel of Serial Murder ... certainly caught my attention.
MERCY is filled with many things ... there is the serial killer, of course, and the female homicide detective who pairs with an FBI Agent when the murder count starts climbing. You have all the secondary characters and/or suspects who lend a little levity to the subject of this book.
Houston is experiencing a particularly gruesome slate of serial murders that no one has ever seen the likes of. All the victims are female, pretty, blond. These women KNOW their killer ...they willingly open the door and allow themselves to be tied hand and foot. They don't fight even when the torture begins.
This book takes us on a trip through lives that most of us have never and will never know. It is not an easy read. I can only imagine the kind of research that had to be done for this book ...and the author did an outstanding job. The mystery starts early and lasts until the last few pages.
I would classify this one as a dark, psychological murder mystery. It's quite gruesome, very descriptive .... exactly the kind of book I want to read.

Love all of his books. He knows how to keep you turning the page. could not put this book down. When I finished the book I had to let a friend read it. It was that good.
