First pub. in 1953 in Austria. Translated into English in 1954 - this copy pub. 1977.

I read this book decades ago - it was wonderful meeting this old friend again. Lorenz states his views clearly, admits them as his own, except where he uses a higher reference, loves his subject and his animals and living with them, and tells all clearly and most humorously. His studies were foundational to today's ideas and studies. Remember that when you read some modern day scientist who says Lorenz was wrong in this or that. Also remember that in another 10 years Lorenz will probably be right once again. This author is enjoyable: the anecdotes in this book will be happily recognized by all those who like animals.
