I have been using this book for over thirty years and highly recommend it...
It is still relevant even though it is older and one of the better 'mix' cookbooks out there...
There is a companion book also that is excellent "More-Make-Mix"...
I am a cook and also had a large family of boys (7) with little money and these books were invaluable... Making your own mixes have several advantages: no preservatives, the ingredients can be adjusted to your needs /like if necessary and they are very cost effective. Between the two books just about every mix you can buy in the market are included. They are quick and easy to prepare with the basic ingredients found in most pantries. Really good investment.
