The Discworld books are perhaps the only series that I've never felt the need to read in order... this one, I believe, is the second installment in the two-dozen-plus volume humorous series... I'm not usually much for reading 'humor,' but Pratchett (and Douglas Adams) are my exceptions. They really are very very funny.
In this one, the Discworld, atop its giant turtle cruising through space, is on a collision course with a giant star. The only way to avert disaster will be to have the eight spells of the tome known as the Octavo read simultaneously and at the right moment.... however, one of the spells has left the book and is lodged in the brain of the failed wizard Rincewind, who is in parts unknown with the archetypal Tourist, Twoflower, and his amazingly cute but quite possibly malevolent travelling Trunk, The Luggage.

If you enjoy a bit of silliness in your humor this is the book for you. I laughed all the way through it.

Another great DiscWorld novel featuring the âwizard' Rincewind and his friend TwoFlower. This is the second Discworld book that I have read, the first being âThe Color of Magic'. This book takes right up where the last lets off, with Rincewind falling off the Disc. This book has a much more solid storyline and the characters are fabulous. I look forward to many more hours reading about the adventures to be found on DiscWorld.

Pratchett reminds me of Christopher Moore and Carl Haiison. Funny, silly, sarcastic...Loved it. More, More, More!

Rincewind returns!
And runs away!
And runs away, and runs away and runs away! All with Twoflower the tourist and the luggage in tow.
Pratchett has a _lot_ of fun with fantasy tropes (at least as much as in the Color of Magic), as well as management and I loved Cohen the Barbarian. Worth the time and the money and I hope somone else out there is enjoying the copy I put up for trade.

The whole discworld series is such a fun read. An adventurous romp through an impossible world. It's lighthearted, but engaging enough to keep you reading at night long after you should have turned out the light!

The Light Fantastic, the second of the Discworld books, is a decent read but nothing more. Somewhat less amusing than the first in the series, The Light Fantastic still manages to entertain and keep the pages turning. While not as funny as the first, it's still worth the read. If nothing else, it's an entertaining way to pass the time.

Back are the same cast of characters we got to know in the first book, plus an extra, as we are introduced to Cohen the Barbarian. Rincewind, Twoflower, and the Luggage all keep the story moving with the usual mix of hijinks and so forth. But it doesn't pack as much punch as the first in the series. Given that Pratchett is still going after 30+ Discworld books, you're bound to have a few highs and lows along the way. While not necessarily a low, it's certainly not a high either. Middle of the road is a good label.

Either way, it's more entertaining than a lot of other stuff out there. Overall, it's a good book that doesn't quite live up to the promise of the first but keeps you entertained and makes you smile more often than not. I will certainly pick up the 3rd book, Equal Rites.

Very fun. A little more polished and more like what the Discworld books will become later. This book was one coherent storyline, rather than a loosely connected series of vignettes the first one seemed to be. And so many puns! So very many puns. The ending was a little bittersweet, but it was really time.

I like or love everything Terry Pratchett's written (that I've read). I'm working on reading every book he's written, but that'll take a while!

The wit, wisdom, and, sheer comedic genius of Sir Terry Pratchett's works is unparalleled in our world.
What makes The Discworld so engaging, is that one can see their friends, their neighbors, and, even themselves, in the characters that populate the series.
All of the Discworld books work well as stand-alone stories, but also fit together to fill out one gigantic puzzle.

I didn't like this one. I like the ones where it starts with normal (!) people, and leads up to a crisis. This one starts with a crisis and then leads up to... (I can't say, because I didn't finish it).

The Adventure of Twoflower, Rincewind and the Luggage continue. Part two of our introduction to Discworld.

In The Light Fantastic, only one individual can save the world from a disastrous collision. Unfortunately, the hero happens to be the singularly inept wizard Rincewind, who was last seen falling off the edge of the world...

Terry Pratchett is extremely clever and utterly irreverent. His books are completely fun!

I enjoyed this much more than the first book, and it was very much woth reading the first book to be able to read this. I found the book funny and easy to read, a great sign of what to expect in future Discworld novels.

This book is registered at BookCrossing, the BC label being taped on the front cover. Cover corners a bit curved, other than that the condition of the book is pretty good.
