Patterson books are mostly predictable, but in this one he broke the mold. This is an "I have to keep reading" book. I can recommend this without reservation.
I usually wait for the paperback but this book just drew me to it saying "Buy me, read me."This story by James Patterson had more twists than a pretzel. Simple plot-right? An art student suddenly finds $13 million in diamonds. Simple-yes? Hey, we're dealing with James Patterson here, remember? Enter, The Ghost, the greatest assassin in the world and let the chase begin. This book should fly off my bookshelf before the sun sets.
This is one of the better Patterson novels I have read in recent years. A real page-turner about the Russian mafia and diamond syndicate and a young art student who finds $16 million in diamonds after an assassination of a Russian mobster. Very fast-paced - I read this one in one day. There is a really unexpected twist about half-way through the book that I was totally unprepared for. High recommendation for this one!
Matthew Bannon is a poor art student living in New York. He has found the love of his life in Katherine Sanborne, a professor of Fine Arts at Parson's. He was originally from Hotchkiss, Colorado, his father wanted him to follow family tradition and join the Marines, his mother hoped he would be more artistic like her. So he compromised, four years n the Marines with tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, then he moved to New York to study art.
It way just an ordinary day in New York when Grand Central Station was suddenly filled with gunshots and two huge explosions. Everyone thought it was a terrorist attack and people poured out of the building as fast as they could before they were caught up in another attack like 9/11. As Matthew was running out of the terminal he saw a man lying on the floor in front of an open locker. By the time he reached the man he was dead, but Matthew took what was in the locker. A bag, a bag filled with diamonds. Matthew took it and ran. He thought he life was really going to change. After selling these diamonds he'd be a very rich man.
That's was all before he thought things through, someone would be missing those diamonds. That's when he realized he was being hunted. An assassin called The Ghost was chasing him down. The diamonds belonged to an international syndicate, and when The Ghost wasn't finding him fast enough they added another assassin. This new assassin had two targets in their sights, Matthew and The Ghost. It would be a great pleasure to make The Ghost disappear forever.
You can't go wrong with a Patterson thriller. As always there are twists and turns, chills and spills, secrets revealed and enough action to keep those pages turning. Patterson's trademark of short chapters are a key to this, it makes the book hard to put down. The twist in this story was truly unexpected, something Patterson and his co-writers are experts at incorporating into their stories.
Katherine is a very relate-able character. She falls in love with a poor art student and all that changes overnight as she is caught up in the journey to save their lives only she doesn't even know it until it's almost too late.
Perfect for Patterson fans and a really good stand alone if you have never read a Patterson suspense thriller.

Easy reas very lever plot, it kept me in the dark and I like that.
Loved this book, very fast reading and very exciting. James Patterson has done it again. One of his better stories.
This book was a real page-turner. I couldn't put it down. Lots of twists and turns.
This is my first James Patterson book, so I can't compare it to his other books. It was kind of predictable, but still an exciting read. The only thing that irked me was the fact that as a Marine who enlisted for 4 years, at most you'd have 2 years served in OEF/OIF with the assumption that you were shipped off as soon as you finished with the trainings. If they were 1-year deployments.
Being a fan of James Patterson books, this book continues to hold my attention until the end and did not disappoint. To be honest, I read many different authors, so I do not sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book by James Patterson to make the scene. When I am looking for a fast exciting read that will keep me entertained until the end I turn to this author. I would recommend this book for just that purpose. Read it. :-)
Good read, hard to put down.lots of action and a some good surprises... Two thumbs uo.
I was pleasantly surprised. Lately James Patterson's books haven't been up to par, but this one had an interesting premise with some great twists and was a fun read. I hope the old James Patterson is back!
LOVE LOVE LOVE James Patterson and this book did not disappoint!
Typical Patterson fare, which is to say, entertaining and worth reading. Not one of his best, but well above his worst.
LOVED this one! One of the Patterson & Karp best. It does have some 'gore' so be prepared, but it has some great twists! Highly recommended
Excellent page turning mystery. Read it in one day. Half way through it just takes off!
Super good reading, a true page turner. Such a surprise twist, I found it hard to put down. Loved this book!
Great story! It's obvious James Patterson wasn't alone in writing this story. Marshall Karp, I'm sure, did 99% of it.
A real page turner with many twists. I'm sure any mystery lover will enjoy this read! I give it 5 stars!!
I really enjoy this story. The story is easy to follow, not a book you have to read in one sitting.
Very fast moving and exciting. Good Book!
