This book deserves 10 stars. The realistic detail of the Bolivian jungle, its dangers and the threats it currently faces, is stunning. On an emotional level the story works brilliantly as well. You'll come away with admiration for the young gringa redhead who may have made a very stupid mistake early on in the book, as well as for the natives carrying on their way of life in a time of brutal change.

This novel is so scary to read that I had to stop and put my mind on something else so that I would have the mental peace to fall asleep.

This is a brutal tale of survival. The protagonist is a tough one to warm up to but she did redeem herself somewhat in the end.
