Amazing story. I knew what the Marines could do. But this is the first time I really understood what the SeaBees accomplished, as there was a section devoted to them too.

And, while I'm not a big fan of Admiral Halsey, at least he knew the Peleliu invasion should have been canceled. While Admiral Nimitz ordered it anyway. Too many Marines---and Japanese---died for no reason.
