An entertaining tale for older children, not younger children. It was fun in places and somewhat harsh in places. It really picks up the pace and becomes better toward the end. It has some good lessons about being brave and being kind. One thing I loved most of all was seeing the illustrations throughout that were sent in by children listed with their names and ages.
King Fred of Cornucopia is a good king. He has some advisors that are not so good. There is a legend about a monster called the Ickabog and we will see if that monster actually exists, with all the machinations of Spittleworth and Flapoon taking place in the kingdom. Is it real?
It took me a while to get hooked, but the ending was fast paced and satisfying. It definietly feels like a story that was told aloud. The picures drawn by children during covid are a great addition.
