I love Cesar and have read his other books, so this book was a little bit dissappointing for me. It is a great book to read if you know little to nothing about puppies and/or have no idea where to start to pick one out. I already know a lot about dogs and puppies and was hoping for a bit more step by step instructions on specific methods to train a puppy, having recently acquired a 4mo old from the shelter. While it does indeed discuss a lot about what goes on in the puppy mind and how to train, it left me wanting more. I also found that it was a bit of a repeat from his other books. I think this book is a must have for anyone who has never had a dog before & is starting out dog parenthood with a puppy. But, for a person who is more experienced, this is not the book for you.

This book does offer great information on where NOT to get a puppy--I was thrilled that he included why you should never get a puppy from a pet store as it promotes puppy mills. In fact, if you look on page 44 there is a picture of the "Last Chance for Animals" group. I am standing in the back row next to the tall guy with the dog. I worked at Last Chance when I lived in Los Angeles and was present for the filming of Cesar's "Dog Whisperer" show on Puppy Mills--so, go Cesar!! Thank you so much for being such an outstanding spokesman against puppy mill/pet store dogs!
