This was my literary book for the month. The book was selected as the winner of the Story Prize in 2005. It is a short book with four stories that are all set along the Hill Road in a parish called Kilroan. These stories are connected by the setting and the characters who live along the road. These people are what we would call the salt of the earth, but hidden deep in their lives are violent acts that cause ripples for them and the next generation. What I found interesting is that the author had a child/children in each story who were either directly affected by horrid events or were secondary recipents of the violence. The author brings the Irish language and the people to life through his dialogue.
