Fantasy at its classic best. The infinite eternal House, where the clocks must be wound and the lamps lighted, to keep the Universe running. The young man learns to become Master of the House upon his father's disappearance and eventually realizes that the Master is more so the Principal Servant of the House. Drawn in detail, the characters are likeable, intelligent, developed personalities. The plot moves well; the adventures are exciting; the emotions are true;the rewards of reading are the pleasing satisfaction of having enjoyed a good, well-written story. Also recommended is the sequel "The False House" and I'm pleased to learn that the author is at work on a third volume.
